Start by choosing to transcend disciplines

To thrive in today’s fast-changing world, business leaders must be equipped with a wide range of skills. That’s why ESCP Business School offers interdisciplinary study opportunities which go beyond pure business education, encouraging students to take advanced courses in other disciplines such as law, design, or mathematics.

Preparing future managers' professional life

Times to come will be hard to foresee and extremely competitive. New technologies are evolving rapidly and converging with one another, all of which will make future managers' professional life far different from that of the older generations. With the aim to prepare young graduates for a technology-driven future, ESCP Business School equips them with the necessary tools to work in the age of the 4th Industrial Revolution and beyond.

New challenges

With the new challenges brought about by the massive arrival of new technologies, such as artificial intelligence, we believe that science and the humanities should be more intertwined than ever. These disciplines are decisive in understanding the ethical challenges, creating value from changing human-AI relationships, as well as in designing effective and sustainable solutions.

To compete with machines, humans need to be good at creating the improbable solutions. "Art Thinking", a method taught during "Improbable Seminars" at ESCP Business School, helps to meet these new challenges, allowing people be creative and to think about the philosophical, political, societal or environmental issues of technical innovations.

A new generation of managers

In an increasingly globalized world, the new generation of managers is in perpetual search for challenges, opportunities and life-long learning. To promote versatility, open-mindedness and multiculturalism, ESCP programmes are designed to immerse students into another culture for one or several semesters.

They have the opportunity to take part in exchange programmes with one of our over 130 partner universities in Europe and the World, as well as to pursue a Double Degree with one of the numerous Dual Degree Partners worldwide.

Interdisciplinary Teaching

At ESCP Business School, interdisciplinary teaching integrates the hard and the soft skills of management. We develop our students’ creativity by cultivating curiosity, confidence and encouraging the contribution of all disciplines to economic dynamism. As Professor Francesco Rattalino, Dean of ESCP Turin Campus, once said: "We are the oldest business school in the world, but we like to look at ourselves as we were, and still are, the first into the future".

Start by choosing responsible paths

With our contemporary world going through major changes, the era of responsible and collaborative leadership has arrived. By educating responsible leaders for tomorrow, ESCP Business School prides itself in being a platform for innovation on ethics, responsibility and sustainability issues, as well as a catalyst for debate on these crucial topics.

The challenges facing the world

The world is currently facing major environmental and societal challenges, with many of our natural resources being stretched to their limits, hence the urgent need to transition toward a new form of responsible capitalism.

Leading a sustainable Future

Leading a sustainable future starts with educating better leaders for tomorrow. As a growing majority of young adults are looking to use their careers to solve social and environmental problems, we are convinced that business schools play an important role in equipping them with the knowledge and skills to manage our changing world.

Key adjustments

To that end, key adjustments have occurred in ESCP Business School’s activities regarding ethics, responsibility and sustainability. Beyond teaching traditional business management, we have developed dedicated programmes as well as innovative educational content across our programmes.

The crucial role of sustainability

Sustainability plays a crucial role in research and teaching, as well as in daily operations of our campuses, with our Berlin campus being a leader in the in the field through sustainability-driven Master programmes, research hubs, chairs and publications, for example on sustainable business models and the circular economy or the use of Big Data and IoT to reduce food waste.

Foster the transition toward circular economy

To foster the transition toward circular economy, a complex process involving the collaboration between numerous actors and institutions, we must also explore how companies can contribute to sustainable development by completely rethinking their business models.

The Chair in Circular Economy

That's why ESCP Business School created a Research Chair in Circular Economy, with the mission to inspire a cross-fertilisation of views and encourage companies to take part in these economic and societal changes. As explained by the Chair's co-scientific Directors, Prof. Valentina Carbone and Prof. Aurélien Acquier, its approach is completely interdisciplinary, because the circular economy brings into play social science, political science, engineering science, economics, design and the various management disciplines.

A sustainable future for the next generations

In a world defined by the economy, the sphere of business can tip the scales towards a sustainable future for the next generations. By defending our values, our unique approach to management and our multicultural point of view on the world, we lay down responsible paths for future business leaders and train them to embrace the world with intelligence and ethics.

Start by choosing European diversity

Created in 1819 by entrepreneurs, ESCP Business School has embraced the values of multiculturalism and diversity rooted in European university culture for the last 200 years. Throughout 6 integrated campuses in Europe, we promote our European cross-cultural approach to management based on interdisciplinary principles and train the high-potential leaders of tomorrow.

Since 1819

Since its founding in 1819, ESCP Business School has chosen to teach responsible leadership based on European values and commitment.

In 1974, we opened our London Campus, back when the UK was building up its ties with Continental Europe. Undeterred by the Brexit, which came into force on January 31st 2020, we remain a true UK institution and a European leader at the heart of London.

With urban campuses in Berlin, London, Paris, Madrid, Turin and Warsaw, our European identity enables us to train high-level professionals who will be able to successfully bridge borders and contribute to the consolidation of a thriving European economic area.

Our missions

Our mission is to inspire and educate tomorrow's business leaders. That’s why every year, our Master in Management (MiM) students from all campuses in Europe meet at the European Parliament in Brussels to attend the programme’s flagship seminar “Designing Europe” and to immerse themselves in the reality of European parliamentarians.

Moving Tomorrow - A Cultural Journey

“Moving Tomorrow - A Cultural Journey”, our serious game that received the 2019 Reimagine Education Awards silver medal, embodies ESCP’s European management style, described by Professor Andreas Kaplan, Dean of ESCP Berlin Campus, as a “cross-cultural, societal management approach based on interdisciplinary principles”.

Two hundred years

For two hundred years, ESCP Business School has grown and developed with the simultaneous occurrence of deep challenges and opportunities. As European humanists, we will continue passing on to our students the values of academic excellence inherited from European university culture and inspiring future leaders to impact the world with respect for cultures and all forms of diversity.

Start by choosing an open world today

For 200 years, we have trained and educated high-potential leaders and entrepreneurs through teaching and research on the one hand, and support to companies on the other. From this long-term experience, the world’s first Business School which celebrated its Bicentenary in 2019, has drawn three challenges that have to be considered as priorities for business schools.

A world with globalised companies

Far from the promise of a “flat world”, we now operate in a world where globalised companies face very different cultural realities: the political, legal, cultural, and social playing fields of these global companies have remained segmented.

In this context, the ability to know two or three cultures in depth and to have the mindset to discover other cultures throughout one’s life is a distinctive feature of tomorrow’s leaders and entrepreneurs. This is the very mission of ESCP Business School: offering students rotational curricula on 6 different European campuses in Berlin, London, Paris, Madrid, Turin and Warsaw.

The technological revolution

The technological revolution that started more than 20 years ago has disrupted all our activities: trade, information, training. Today, digital is no longer a world apart; the frontier between the real world and the digital world has been abolished.

Responsiveness commands professionals to be able to think and work in project mode rather than in established processes. In this context, interdisciplinarity prevails and everyone must master an expertise while being able to dialogue with other specialists.

At ESCP, the multidisciplinary approach was theorised by our founders – a group of economic scholars and businessmen, including the famous economist Jean-Baptiste Say: lawyers cannot elaborate rules without a solid digital culture; engineers and developers will see their innovative products doomed to failure if the designer and the marketer are not, and so on.

An incessant transformation

Finally, these incessant transformations are only meaningless pictograms if one remains with their nose pressed to a small part of the canvas. The leader must connect information, detect weak signals, embrace a long-term perspective... In short, stand back as if looking at an impressionist full picture.

The three dimensions

ESCP programmes provide tomorrow’s leaders with broad knowledge to help them go beyond the mere technical approach or exclusively economic purpose of a company, providing a solid grasp of the economy, politics, societal, and environmental issues.

These three dimensions — multicultural, multidisciplinary, and humanistic — constitute the historical foundation of the European education. If companies legitimately expect young graduates to be experts as soon as they enter the professional world, it is up to the higher education institutions to plant this seed that will help them evolve quickly and over time.

The world without borders will probably never exist, whether these borders are geographical, cultural, or disciplinary.

It is up to us to train the next leaders who will be able to successfully bridge borders. This is why today, more than ever, an integrated multi-campus Business School is the best answer to global challenges.

Consumers' habits and behaviours have changed during this crisis, and social media channels have been a catalyst of this change for consumers to communicate, work, entertain themselves and even to keep fit. Facing budget cuts and uncertainty, how to better communicate and resonate in audiences is a current challenge for brands now and in future to come. In a period of social distancing, the need to get together virtually is becoming stronger. A group of 50 young people, professionals and students living around the world, with the ambition to make Italy an inclusive and resilient country, organised a remarkable online happening: Officine Italia, the first “virtual piazza” in Italy, born to plan the future.

ESCP Business School, which supports the managers of tomorrow who are key players for the future of the country, has partnered with Officine Italia.

This innovative event took place entirely online, from 15th May to 17th May, and it attracted more than 1000 active participants, who connected from all over the world.

ESCP supported Officine Italia by organising the exclusive webinar "Strategic Leadership in Turbulent Times", hosted by Alessandro Lanteri, Visiting Professor of Strategy, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, who explained that the world is increasingly VUCA, which is an acronym for Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous. During the webinar, Professor Lanteri provided some tools to analyse the current situation and understand how the choices made today can influence the future. He explained how to achieve strategic goals embracing leadership and decision-making and cultivating foresight and anti-fragility, turning challenges into opportunities.

Officine Italia was a three-day marathon in which young Italian people based in many different countries, guided by mentoring sessions and inspired by relevant keynote speakers, worked together to develop factual ideas, proposals and projects for the regeneration of the country.

During this virtual weekend, participants discussed solutions to the challenges that Italy will face in the near future, in three macro-areas of strategic importance: Beauty, Talent and Network.

Speeches, debates and discussions addressed these topics during the event. Participants put together ideas and proposals that answer challenges related to their macro area.

Officine Italia structured the event in 12 Networking Rooms, virtual rooms coordinated by the 114 Community Partners who supported the organisers on this path. Among them there were many ESCP students' societies: About Food ESCP, Build It Up, GEA Society ESCP, JET ESCP, Regatta ESCP.

Here are two examples on how ESCP societies facilitated participation: About Food ESCP Society was one of the holders of a Networking Room focused on the promotion of the territory, typical products and food experience post-Covid19; while GEA Society ESCP hosted another one on the theme of the Circular Economy with a particular focus on how the implementation of this economic system can assist post-Covid19 recovery.

A jury, made up of Officine Italia and its partners, has identified the most promising projects for each area (Beauty, Network, Talent) choosing from 241 ideas. The three most promising projects will have the opportunity to access the acceleration and development path.

The winners of the three macro-areas are:

  • Beauty: Agroasta, a platform that brings together demand and supply of unsold food products, reallocating them on the market by an auction within a specific time limit.
  • Network: Campo Digitale, a zero-km food distribution service app based on online purchasing groups through an e-commerce platform.
  • Talent: T.U.O. Talent University Network, orientation platform that helps students in suburban schools in the choice of their future university.

Officine Italia has involved many young talents and enlightened companies and institutions who believe that we are facing a future which is uncertain but full of opportunities to be seized.
