Class of 2016

The company visits are one of the most interesting parts of this programme. These, along with the practical approach of the classes, allow us to learn not only from a theoretical point of view, but also on a practical level. Moreover, they represent a great oppurtunity to understand the F&B sector and to meet managers that can share there experiences and useful tips for our future careers.

Testimonials

The link between students and companies is also boosted by the Testimonials who will bring there corporate experience from the Food & Beverage industry directly into the classroom. The lectures in class will become an unique appointment to obtain:

  • The direct experience of Food & Beverage entrepreneurs on how to make business ideas happen
  • Tips and tricks from Food and Beverage Experts on how to face a such complex industry
  • Useful advice on how to increase your professional network to succeed in the Food & Beverage sector
Consultancy Project

From October to March, you will understand hands-on how a company in the Food & Beverage sector works by carrying out a professional project in collaboration with a Manager from this sector.

The consultancy project is a research study that deals with a real and concrete business problem of the Food & Beverage company proposing it and it's aim is to supply a result similar to one that a consultancy company would offer.

You will have the chance to meet Managers of the Food and Beverage industry, discussing directly with them the business challenges and learning step by step how the company works in the specific area of the company project (ex. Finance, Marketing, Management Control, HR, Supply Chain, …).

For Partners Companies the Consultancy Projects are the occasion to benefit from the smart ideas and energy of the MSc in International Food and Beverage Management students, and to outsource a piece of project without the money investment required for a traditional consultancy firm.

In addition, thanks to the ESCP Consultancy Projects, the companies of the Food & Beverage sector will have the opportunity to get in touch with interesting profiles for recruiting and employer branding activities.

The Consultancy Project is carried out in English by a group of university graduates attending the MSc in International Food and Beverage Management, mixed by education background and nationality. It is an integrated part of the ESCP Master training programme and, as such, the project evaluation (grading). In particular you will work in groups of around 5 people under the supervision of a “Company Tutor” assigned by the Food & Beverage Company involved. The Tutor will have the task of assisting and guiding the students throughout the project to guarantee the achievement of the set goals. It will also be the Tutor’s duty to supply you with all documents and support necessary to carry out the job. The work will be done online because not all the Companies are located in Turin and even because one of the purpose of this activity is to train participants to get comfortable with remote working and remote meeting (that is becoming the standard way companies use to develop their projects globally).

“Chef for a week” with an International School of Cuisine in Italy

You will have the chance to be "Chef for a week", learning directly from culinary Masters how to manage complexity and unleash creativity.

The project “Chef for a Week” will take you to the Italian Food Valley for 5 days of meetings with Masters, cooking classes, tasting sessions, training experiences and company visits with famous Italian business leaders in the Food & Beverage sector, such as Barilla.

The famous chef Gualtiero Marchesi has been the rector of ALMA International School of Italian Cuisine for many years. He said that “Example is the highest form of teaching” and in fact every day ALMA represents an extraordinary training experience for those who aim to work in the delightful world of fine cooking as chef or sommelier.

“Chef for a Week” in ALMA (or equivalent school of cuisine) is an integrated part of the programme without added cost.

Professional thesis & Research Seminar - Term 4

This individual applied research project is an essential part of the programme since it leads to in-depth analysis.

It should be worked on in terms 2, 3 and 4. The topic has to be finalised in coordination with the professional thesis supervisor by the end of term 2. The evaluation of the Master’s professional thesis is based on a written report and an oral defense before a jury by the end of December.

Professional thesis represents 17 of the total of 90 ECTS credits earned over this academic year.*

During this time, students will also participate in a mandatory Research Seminar held by a ESCP professor. This seminar represents 3 ECTS credits of the total of 90 earned over this academic year.

IFBM was a life-changing experience. I did not have an economics background and the programme really taught me the fundamentals of Marketing, Finance and how to work in an international environment. The most valuable assets that I retained from the programme was the opportunity to acquire the expertise, contacts and inspiration from the guest speakers who held managing positions in the F&B companies and industry.”

Overall, the quality of the lectures and the professors is excellent. We were asked to participate a lot during the lessons, and this, along with the projects and case studies we had to carry out, made up a “learn-by-doing” approach that helped me internalise the learnings, thus being able to really make use of them in my first work experiences. Working with international students in multiple projects provided me with interpersonal skills that have been very useful in the multi-cultural environments within Nestlé.”
