In these challenging times, how should companies, entrepreneurs and people orient themselves to manage processes and teams better?
Professor Francesco Rattalino, ESCP Turin Campus Dean, answered this crucial question in the exchange he had with Alessio Cini, Partner at Soges Executive Search, in a webinar about People Management with a specific focus on emergencies.
The unprecedented and rapid spread of the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted global business and our daily life, leaving people adrift. All over the world, companies are concerned about the impact on their performance and, importantly, about employee safety and well-being, looking for the best way to respond fast and effectively to this time of crisis.
Prof Rattalino focused on how to manage resources today, using organisational models, transparency, ethics, smart organisation, commitment and tools to improve team motivation and companies' performance. He pointed out that COVID-19 represents the largest, and most expensive, change management project in the world.
Change today is more and more exponential, and we are not wired to understand it. Change Management requires leadership and management. Leadership creates the vision and sense of urgency. Leaders communicate, inspire and motivate. Management provides the rigor, alignment, and discipline required to implement the strategy and achieve the vision.
Prof Rattalino presented Kotter's 8-Step Change Model, the process developed by the leadership guru John Kotter to create lasting transformations within an organisation. This model was designed as a framework for companies to follow in their journey to implementing change and every single step is equally as crucial in achieving a lasting and successful result.
Then, Francesco Rattalino identified nine pivotal factors for applying this change effectively: emotional intelligence, honesty, innovation, creativity, resilience, dynamism, sustainability, leadership open to delegation, and respect.
The online seminar included an open discussion with all the participants. It was an extraordinary chance to put on the table ideas and inputs to rethink organisation and business from a new perspective, sharing effective best practices for everyone, from entrepreneurs to junior talents.
The webinar was part of the event series "HR: Human Reaction to the crisis", organised by Copernico Torino in collaboration with Soges Executive Search.
