Stefan Schmid is heading the Chair of International Management and Strategic Management at ESCP Business School, Berlin Campus.

He teaches International Management and Strategic Management in graduate, post-graduate, PhD, and executive education programmes.

His research focuses on internationalization strategies, headquarters-subsidiary-relationships and  internationalization of top-management. 

His research appears regularly in academic journals, such as European Management Journal, European Management Review, International Business Review, Journal of World Business or Management International Review, as well as in practitioner-oriented outlets. Stefan is also author of numerous case studies on firms' strategies.

Stefan held various leadership roles at ESCP, including Director of Studies and Academic Dean for the Master in European Business (now Full Time MBA in International Management) across all campuses, Academic Dean for Executive Education at the Berlin campus, and Academic Dean for the Executive MBA at ESCP. He currently oversees the Executive MBA and the GMP programme at the Berlin campus. He is also heading ESCP's Research Center "The Future of Multinational Enterprises" (FEM).  Stefan's teaching has been recognized by various awards, he is a member of numerous academic associations and maintains strong ties with the business world.

Stefan is a graduate of the University of Augsburg and EAP (Paris, Oxford and Berlin), supported by  a scholarship from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes. He earned his Doctorate with a thesis on Cultural Diversity in the International Corporation (summa cum laude) at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. As an Assistant Professor, he worked on his Habilitation thesis and co-led the reserach project Organisation of Competence Centres, funded by the Volkswagen Foundation. He completed his Habilitation degree in 2002, joining ESCP immediately afterwards as Chair of International Management and Strategic Management.
