Certificate
AI and Financial Innovation
In a financial world defined by disruption, the ability to combine innovation, technology, and strategic execution has become one of the most sought-after skillsets in the market.
The Certificate in AI and Financial Innovation equips professionals to understand, evaluate, and lead the transformation reshaping banking, asset management, fintech and corporate finance. Across six courses, participants progress from the business models and technologies redefining financial services to the concrete applications of artificial intelligence across the finance profession. They improve their command of generative AI and machine learning, explore decentralised finance and digital assets, and learn to lead AI implementation projects and build AI-powered automations that deliver measurable value.
The programme combines self-paced learning with live interactive sessions and hands-on exercises using real tools, taught by ESCP faculty and experienced practitioners. A capstone project integrates the full journey: participants design and prototype an AI-driven solution to a genuine business challenge, leaving with the skills employers actively seek and a portfolio piece to prove them.

Curriculum
Designed and delivered by ESCP Professors, ESCP Executive Education Online Certificates offer you the academic excellence and rigorous pedagogical know-how deployed in our flagship EMBA and Executive Masters.
Module 1 - One elective to choose between:
Fintech and the future of financial services
From the economics of financial intermediation to the rise of digital-native players, this course examines how technology and AI are transforming financial services. You will trace the evolution of FinTech, analyse how banks, insurers, and asset managers respond to disruption across payments, lending, robo-advisory, and InsurTech, and learn to build and defend the valuation of a FinTech or AI venture.
Decentralized finance and digital assets
Blockchain technology is reshaping financial systems through open, automated, and transparent protocols. This course explains how decentralised finance works, from blockchain infrastructure, cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, and smart contracts to decentralised exchanges, lending and borrowing protocols, and crypto derivatives. You will evaluate tokenomics and incentive design, identify risks specific to DeFi systems, and gain practical competence in navigating digital-asset markets and tools.
Module 2 - Business model innovation in finance
How do financial institutions create and capture value, and how is technology rewriting the answer? This course equips you with the tools and frameworks to analyse, design, and reinvent business models in finance. You will map traditional models, explore trends such as platforms, open banking, and embedded finance, and design innovative, scalable business models, whether you sit in an incumbent or a startup.
Module 3 - AI applications in finance
Where is AI actually delivering value in finance today? Built on real use cases, this course surveys AI applications across the finance profession: forecasting, budgeting, and capital allocation in the CFO’s office; accounting and fraud detection; portfolio optimisation; algorithmic trading; and risk management. Hands-on exercises with Excel and AI-powered tools, plus a look at emerging AI agents, turn concepts into skills you can apply immediately.
Module 4 - Leading AI implementation in finance
Most technology projects in finance fail not because of the technology, but because of how they are led. This hands-on course combines project management discipline with the specific challenges of AI implementation: initiating and planning technology projects in finance, managing execution and risk, and driving adoption and continuous improvement. You will leave with a playbook for your first 100 days leading an AI initiative.
Module 5 - Generative AI and machine learning in finance
Go under the hood of the models transforming finance. This course builds your technical command of machine learning and large language models: extracting insight from unstructured financial text, quantifying uncertainty in AI outputs, and knowing when to prompt and when to code. You will learn to recognise the failure modes that make AI unreliable in finance, and to build AI workflows that are traceable, auditable, and reproducible.
Module 6 - AI-powered automation in finance
This advanced module enhances participants’ technical understanding of AI’s role in finance. It covers the core elements of machine learning, data extraction, and pattern recognition— including NLP and sentiment analysis—while contrasting Python-based coding with prompt engineering in tools like ChatGPT. Participants explore AI agents and Excel integrations, apply advanced forecasting and inference techniques, and critically assess the capabilities and limitations of generative models in financial decision-making.
AI is now everywhere. The technology is readily available, and one’s ability to use it to create and capture value has become paramount. Merely understanding the technology is no longer sufficient. To grow a competitive advantage, managers must go beyond the basics and develop a strategic view of AI.
This online certificate is designed to fill this need, and participants having completed the course will be able to:
- Identify how to create and capture value with AI through frameworks, examples and case studies covering the full spectrum of corporate activities
- Prepare the implementation of transformation initiatives to leverage AI in their specific contexts using methodologies, tools, and industry leaders' experience.
