From fast fashion to food waste, four Bachelor’s students turn everyday sustainability tips into a fun, accessible podcast
Have you been looking for ways to be a little more sustainable? Four ESCP Bachelor in Management students may be able to help with their new podcast, Small Changes, Big Planet.
Making sustainability accessible to everyone
What Carlotta Faina, Selina Guttadauro Mancinelli, Sara Hanafi, and Anna Dang-Trân started as a class project has become an engaging, informative and fun series that offers actionable tips for living more sustainably—without the overwhelm.
Created as part of their Bachelor “Collective Project” course, the podcast is designed to break down complex sustainability topics into small, everyday actions that anyone can adopt. From fast fashion and food waste to eco-travel and greenwashing, the students explore many topics, rotating roles as hosts and researchers to deliver fresh, relatable content in each episode.
Turning knowledge into action
Each episode dives into how small lifestyle tweaks can lead to big environmental impact. The podcast encourages listeners to reframe daily habits, like choosing vintage clothes over fast fashion, planning meals to avoid food waste, or checking labels for signs of greenwashing.
“Our hope is that this podcast can spark curiosity in people,” says the team. “If it manages to generate interest, it would mean that people are already open to making a small change in their daily lives to contribute to the ‘health’ of our damaged planet, thus fulfilling its purpose.”
Despite limited experience with podcasting tools, the students leaned into their collaboration skills to overcome the challenges of editing, recording and keeping the tone consistent— skills they said they honed during their time in the Bachelor’s programme. The result is a smooth and informative series packed with surprising facts and sustainability hacks. For example:
- Up to 30% of online fashion returns are burned or trashed.
- McDonald’s paper straws originally weren’t recyclable.
- Aviation alone accounts for around 2-3% of global CO2 emissions.
From class project to personal change
DMost importantly, Small Changes, Big Planet is about doing what you can, where you are. Since launching the project, the students have already made personal changes:
- Carlotta now plans meals to minimise waste.
- Selina researches brands to avoid greenwashing traps.
- Anna travels by train when possible.
- Sara has ditched fast fashion for good.
Small Changes, Big Planet is proof that sustainability doesn’t have to be intimidating. It’s about staying curious, taking action, and doing a little better each day. Tune in and discover how you can start making a difference, one small change at a time.
