Pioneering the Future: A Bold Step into One of the World’s Fastest-Growing Sectors

From its Turin campus, ESCP Business School is proud to announce the launch of a pioneering new MiM specialisation in the New Space Economy, set to begin in the spring semester of the 2025–2026 academic year. This innovative track, integrated into the flagship Master in Management programme, positions ESCP among the very first business schools in Europe to embed the space economy within a general management curriculum.

As global industries rapidly adapt to the opportunities presented by space-based technologies, ESCP is responding with foresight and agility, offering students a unique opportunity to explore the commercial, legal and strategic dimensions of a booming field projected to exceed $1 trillion in value by 2030.

Space is no longer just about science fiction, rockets, and astronauts. It’s about satellites monitoring crops, enabling mobile payments, and optimising supply chains. The space economy is already transforming multiple sectors, and future business leaders must be ready to navigate this landscape.

A Specialisation for Tomorrow’s Leaders

This unique specialisation is designed not only for students aspiring to enter the aerospace sector, but for future managers across industries. Space-based data and infrastructure are already being applied in telecommunications, agriculture, mobility, energy, finance, logistics, urban planning, and climate monitoring. As public and private investment accelerates, understanding this sector will become essential for business leaders in every field.

Even if you don’t plan to work in the space sector,” says Professor Venuti, “you will almost certainly work with it. That’s why we’ve created a pathway that combines strategy, innovation, entrepreneurship, geopolitics, sustainability, and law, with direct input from industry experts and access to one of Europe’s most dynamic hubs for space activity.”

A Multidisciplinary Journey

Hosted at ESCP Turin campus – strategically located in one of Europe’s most dynamic innovation ecosystems for the space economy, including Thales Alenia Space and a growing constellation of startups – the specialisation is structured around five interconnected modules:

  • 1. Foundations of the Space Economy: Students gain historical, economic and technological context, from star observations a long time ago to moon landing, towards private space tourism. The module covers key actors – public agencies, private firms, and international alliances – alongside emerging business models and market trajectories.
  • 2. Entrepreneurship and Funding in the Space Sector: With space ventures requiring high capital and long development cycles, this module explores how governments, venture capitalists, and corporate investors assess risk, foster innovation, and scale new solutions.
  • 3. Business Models and Commercialisation: This module examines how satellite data and downstream applications are monetised, with a focus on platform economies and cross-sector integration. Case studies include space-enabled logistics optimisation, agricultural monitoring, climate analytics, and urban mobility solutions.
  • 4. Legal, Ethical and Geopolitical Dimensions: As space becomes increasingly commercial and crowded, this module addresses governance, regulation, and sustainability. Students engage with complex questions: Who owns the Moon? What laws govern asteroid mining? Who is liable for space debris? And how can future growth remain inclusive and ethical?
  • 5. Applied Case Studies and Industry Dialogue: Students work on real-world challenges through applied group projects, supported by guest lectures from entrepreneurs, policy-makers, and innovation leaders in the space economy. This hands-on approach bridges theory and practice, culminating in actionable insights and strategic proposals.

Leading with Innovation and Vision

With this launch, ESCP confirms its position as a trendsetter in business education, committed to anticipating emerging sectors and preparing students to lead in areas where technology, policy, and market dynamics converge.

If you’re curious, ambitious, and ready to think beyond borders, this specialisation will equip you to lead the businesses of tomorrow.
As the space economy evolves from the realm of exploration to an integrated part of the global business environment, ESCP ensures its graduates are prepared not just to observe change but to shape it.
