ChangeNow/Les Echos Start Ranking
ESCP n°1 on schools changing the world

Resource scarcity, biodiversity loss and climate change are just a few of the consequences of human activities and just a few of the challenges our students will have to manage once they will start their careers.

To help guarantee our students to be ready for this continuously changing world, sustainability, ethics and social responsibility are implemented in all the different functions of our school.

To be awarded the first place in this new ranking of schools changing the world co-created by ChangeNow and Les Echos Start means a lot for ESCP, for its community and for all the partners that have helped build our sustainability commitments. We are all thrilled to have our efforts recognized and we will keep moving forward working in this direction.

Teaching sustainability

One of our most important goals is to train 100% of our students on the issues related to ecological transition, ethics and sustainability. With that goal in mind, we have been broadening our educational offers and we are progressively building and deepening partnerships, aligned with where our values stand.

Being a Business School, we aim to articulate management disciplines with sustainability topics, and we are increasing the opportunities for our students to gain expertise in this field. Our Master in Management counts over 60 courses dedicated solely to sustainability, and just for the year 2020-2021 5 new ones were created, including the new core course on sustainability: “Business and Sustainability in the age of Anthropocene”.

The main objectives of this course is to instill a common basis and an understanding of the key issues related to sustainability. We also want our students to understand the relationship between sustainability and business, to boost their critical thinking, and to articulate new corporate sustainability and new ways of doing business.

An academic department
dedicated to sustainability

The implementation of these new courses organically led to creation of our Sustainability Academic Department in april 2021, which sees the collaboration of several professors and doctoral students, across campuses and works in synergy with the Sustainable Transition Team to better implement sustainability at all levels.

Beyond the curricula, the department also oversees research on these themes. The school is also home to the Circular Economy and Sustainable Business Models Chair to promote the development of the circular economy in society and to make it easier for firms to follow its principles.

Research on sustainability innovation in the school is also taken on by a dedicated research center SustBusy, counting over 20 professors. Lastly, the school published a series of 54 Impact Papers last June: “Better Business: Creating Sustainable Value'' on social and environmental actions as an integral part of core business values.

Building partnerships:
a key component of our sustainability strategy

ESCP’s Sustainability wide-ranging initiatives led to the development of many connections and networks with outside partners amongst which: NGOs, such as the World Wildlife Fund, Open Diplomacy. We also work with corporate partners, including One Point, ChangeNow, Citeo, Circul’R and many more.

Bringing such ambitions to life cannot be done without bringing together the whole of the ESCP community, whether it’d be our student societies or our alumni through the Alumni association and the ESCP Transition Network (ETN).

The latter is a new collective created in 2020, which sees the collaboration of more than 100 members, from professors, alumni to students. The collective works to bridge the gap between organizations and sustainability and does so through different projects, among which “1000 Fresks”, a Sustainability Job Fair (that took place on October 19th) and a sustainable job platform listing which will soon be available.
