About Our Speaker
Dr Lacy holds a Doctorate Degree in Environmental Science and Engineering from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (Mexico), a Master's Degree in Urban Studies and Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (Mexico) and a certificate in Leadership on Environment and Sustainable Development from El Colegio de México.
Dr Lacy has been Vice-Minister of Environmental Policy and Planning at the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Mexico (2012–2018), Chief negotiator of Climate Change (COP19–COP23), Co-chair of the Global Methane Initiative, Member of the High-Level Group of the Global Environmental Outlook (GEO6), and Board Member of the Climate Action Reserve in California, USA.
Dr Lacy has had extensive experience in policymaking in the field of environment, holding the following positions:
- Technical Director at the Mario Molina Center for Energy and Environmental Strategic Studies (2005–2012), a policy research NGO lead by Dr Mario Molina, a chemist and Nobel Prize laureate for his scientific work in the depletion of the ozone layer;
- Chief of Staff for the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources (2000–2003);
- Founding President of the Mexican Environmental Engineering Association CINAM (1996–1998);
- General Director of Environmental Projects and Studies, and of Environmental Pollution Control and Prevention - Mexico City Government (1989–1997);
- Director of Environmental Planning at the Ministry of Urban Development and Ecology (1982–1987); among other relevant assignments.

Blockchain technology is making its way into the higher education landscape, combating reputational damage and making the lives of recruiters and headhunters easier.
ESCP is committed to continuously improving the student journey thanks to the development of new technologies
As of 2019, ESCP has offered a paperless service for diplomas and certificates, in collaboration with BCdiploma. Taking a step further to ensure the security of our diplomas, ESCP announced at the start of 2022 that all students entering our 27 specialised master's programmes benefit from a diploma certified with blockchain technology. More than 700 alumni now have access to a digital and forgery-proof version of their diploma.
This project fits perfectly with our strategic focus on expanding the services provided to our graduates, in this case offering forgery-proof diplomas that can be easily verified by recruiters.

Non Fungible Tokens or NFT for short are widely equated with digital art in the blockchain community. Speculation with NFTs has received some attention in recent years. However, NFTs have come under criticism caused by the technology, emerging fraud cases, and accusations of being a pyramid or Ponzi scheme, among other things. However, the technology behind it can also be used in other ways.
A Non-Fungible Token is a “cryptographically unique, indivisible, irreplaceable, and verifiable token that represents a specific item, whether digital or physical, in a blockchain.” While NFTs use the same technology with the blockchain as cryptocurrencies, unlike the latter they are unique and non-divisible. An NFT can only be purchased as a whole and exists only once.
“Based on this, there are various exciting use cases that we have elicited and tested with our students as part of the lecture,” says Dr. Marcus Schmalbach, professor at ESCP Berlin for blockchain topics.
Research by students found that 500,000 people in the U.S. alone hold fake degrees and 40 percent of people lie in their resumes.
Time and again, you read in the news about practicing doctors with fake degrees, doctors who never completed a doctorate, or supposedly elite business school graduates who never attended. This is a real problem for institutions like ESCP, but also for HR managers of companies or headhunters who have to accept reputational damage due to fake diplomas. These times should now be over.
Together with the Blockchain Programer Simon Kolkmann, Schmalbach and various students have joined forces and developed a prototype, Valetheia. “Our company is named after Aletheia, the Greek Goddess of truth. We added a ‘V’ to emphasize the purpose of our business. To validate the originality of diplomas and other certificates by using the blockchain technology”, CTO Kolkmann says

Sven Scheid, Director Executive Education at ESCP Business School, was very receptive of our idea, and it is our pleasure to announce that he and his team have made it possible for the Executive Master in Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurial Leadership (EMDIEL) graduating class of 2022 to be among the first graduates with a QR code on their certificate that allows external parties to validate the accuracy of the certificate within seconds.

Deep dive into the consulting world
In line with the objective to constantly conquer new talents to prepare for the future, Accenture* concluded an agreement with ESCP Business School - under the aegis of its Foundation - to support the “Consultant Behavior” course, which is part of the 120 hour-specialization “Consulting dynamics and practices”.
For Professor Daniel Rouach, coordinator of the course, "the 30-hour Consultant Behavior course aims at providing, through a transversal approach which includes the different aspects of the Consulting work, a deep knowledge of the Consulting practice. It will focus on operational and behavioural aspects linked to the Consulting practice. It will also include “hard” aspects related to the methods and tools used by Consultants.
What could be more natural than associating a consulting company, recognized as a leader in innovation consulting services, that will offer our students extraordinary learning grounds. I’m looking forward to this partnership with Accenture, which will be rich in lessons."
183 students from over 20 nationalities (Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, France, Germany, Hong-Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Korea, Lebanon, Mexico, Morocco, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Tunisia, USA) enrolled to deep dive into the world of consulting. Divided into 2 groups (one on a course taught in English, the other in French) they will explore the consultant profession (types of consulting firms, key success factors of becoming a consultant, ethics…), methods and tools (understanding the explicit and implicit demands of clients, diagnosis, strategic plans, strategic Due Diligence…) and the consultant behavior (posture, client relation, ethics, time management…)
On 12nd January, the course has been launched. Students met Lyna Laalou, ESCP Alumna and Senior Manager Strategy & Consulting, Accenture to exchange about her career path at Accenture.
