The Turin Team won the Final Case Competition in Paris
The Young Leadership Forum is a Europe-wide student competition for leading business schools and universities. The Forum holds a case competition and various conferences across 5 of the ESCP campuses every year.
In March the final case competition as well as the international conference of the 2018 Young Leadership Forum took place in Paris.
The event, that aims at uniting leaders of tomorrow and leaders of today, was once again a great opportunity to bring together students from leading universities and senior leaders from the world of business and politics.
The students who won the competition in Turin in February had the opportunity to repeat the experience at ESCP Paris Campus where the winning teams of all countries and new participants from ESCP and other universities were invited for the closing event.
The Turin Team, made up of Gianluca Broglio, Benedetta De Benedetti and Francesco Perego, won the Final Case Competition in Paris. We meet them to talk about this experience.
The main aim of the event is to allow students to exchange ideas and views and learn from each other on particularly important themes like AI & Industry 4.0. What did you learn from the Young Leadership Forum?
Francesco: “It was a challenging experience that allowed us to work, once again, in team. Unlike other experiences we have had, the team was decided by us and so we were well aware of our potential. This opportunity taught us to work together under pressure and with short deadlines which enhanced our teamwork abilities. This being said we discovered some of our weaknesses which are the presentation skills”.
What was the business case you have had to solve?
Benedetta: “During the first round in Turin, the task was to develop a new business strategy for COMAU in a sector that was different from the automotive. The case was divided into four parts: Identify the new opportunity; select the company to build a new relationship; develop the new business model and insert strategic recommendations for this new agreement. Winning the first round in Turin allowed us to go to the Grande Finale in Paris where we were required to compare the projects carried out by the four winning teams from the Berlin, London, Madrid and Turin ESCP campuses. Our team was declared winner”.
What kind of skills were most useful in solving the case?
Gianluca: “As far as we are concerned, the main skills that were most useful in solving this case were our organizational and analytical skills, our ability to summarize information, our strong teamwork and diversity in terms of background, gender, passions and abilities”.
What did you like most about the Young Leadership Forum?
Benedetta: “The topic we worked on was in line with our engineering background and therefore it was a very stimulating experience content-wise. The international exposure the event had was also an added value to this experience since it allowed us to meet people from all the other campuses. Finally the conference that the Young Leadership Forum organized was an incredibly unique experience thanks to which we had the opportunity to hear some insightful opinions about the topic discussed and approach it from an economic point of view of Industry 4.0”.
What do you think of this opportunity?
Gianluca: “It was a great and unique opportunity to prove ourselves in an uncomfortable situation in which pressure, time and knowledge were very critical”.
Francesco: “We are very grateful to have been selected to participate in Turin and most of all we are profoundly grateful for the attention and sincere feedback we received from everyone involved in this project, from judges to students”.
Congratulations for such a big international achievement!
