Sebastian's story illustrates the programme's ability to equip students with the skills, knowledge, and real-world experience to reach their goals, whether through specialized tracks, international exposure, or professional internships. His path from seeking a generalist consulting role to finding his calling in luxury brand management also provides a look at how ESCP's Master in Management can help ambitious students explore different career opportunities to find what really sparks their passion.
What motivated you to pursue a Master in Management and why?
My decision to pursue a Master in Management was driven by my desire to explore various specialisations before committing to a specific career path. I wanted a program that would offer a broad, generalised curriculum with the flexibility to intern during the programme, which I felt would allow me to experience different industries in a real-world context. At first, my goal was to enter consulting as a generalist, making a top-ranked generalised master's programme an ideal choice.
I chose ESCP Business School for several reasons. First, the opportunity to study at four different European campuses appealed to my desire for a diverse educational experience. Second, ESCP's customisable programme allowed me to tailor my studies to my interests, choosing from various specialisations. Lastly, ESCP’s prestigious reputation and high ranking reinforced my decision, knowing it would provide me with great career prospects.
What were some of the most impactful subjects you studied? Why were they significant to your career goals?
During my studies, I found the consulting and luxury management specializations particularly impactful. Even though I chose to not pursue a career in consulting, the specialization equipped me with essential hard skills, such as presentation and project management, which were important during my three internships in consulting-related fields, as well as my current job.
The luxury management specialization I pursued in London changed what I wanted to do in life completely. It ignited my passion for the luxury sector, shifting my career focus. This field is unique as it involves more than just selling a product; it’s about selling a dream, a lifestyle, and an emotion. Understanding this aspect was critical for my career. Additionally, my role as a business analyst at LVMH greatly benefited from the program's strong analytical focus, providing a solid foundation for my current position.
What specific skills did you develop during the MiM programme that have been crucial in your career?
The MiM programme at ESCP Business School helped me develop several crucial skills, including presentation skills, analytical thinking, socialising with people from different cultural backgrounds to create lasting bonds and friendships, adaptability and flexibility to quickly adjust to different cultural environments, which is valuable in a global business setting, as well as working well under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.
How did ESCP’s career services assist you in finding job opportunities?
ESCP Business School's career services were very helpful in my job search. The career fairs provided direct access to potential employers, while resources like Case Coach helped me prepare for consulting internships. Also, roundtable discussions with companies and in-class case studies with luxury brands like Cartier offered excellent networking opportunities and practical insights.
Can you describe your career path since graduating?
While still completing my master's thesis, I applied for and secured a position as a Key Account Management Trainee at LVMH Fragrance Brands. I have been in this role for almost four months now, and it has been an incredibly fulfilling experience. The position allows me to apply the analytical skills and industry knowledge I gained during my studies, and I am thrilled with the career direction I have taken.
