On Friday, November 8, 2024, ESCP Business School’s Berlin campus hosted the third edition of its highly anticipated guest lecture series as part of the Bachelor in Management programme. organised by Professor of Information and Operations Management Markus Bick. The event, held at the iconic Delphi Filmpalast, brought together over 500 students to deepen their understanding of Operations Management (OM) and Information Systems (IS) within the context of the core curriculum. Guest speakers included Fahd Lemhaider, Head of Data at Miles Mobility, Willi Weber, HDI Global SE (Part of Talanx Group, ESCP Partner) and Stefan A. Deutscher & Dirk Stegemann, Boston Consulting Group (BCG).

This guest lecture day marked a transition for the students, who recently concluded their module on Operations Management and are now delving into Information Systems. Topics such as "What is an IS?" and "Business Process Modelling & Management" were covered in preparation for more hands-on learning with SAP and ERP systems in the coming weeks. The event offered a unique opportunity to explore cutting-edge industry insights from distinguished professionals.

The event featured three engaging sessions, and ended with time for Q&A to foster dialogue between students and guest speakers:

  • 09:00 - 10:00 Fahd Lemhaider, Head of Data at Miles Mobility Topic: Insights Into How Carsharing Leverages AI The introductory session covered the experiences of ESCP alumni Fahd Leimhaider and highlighted the realities of the data world in 2024, such as data teams focusing on agility and impact, and managing complex infrastructures with fewer resources.
  • 10:15 - 11:15 Willi Weber, HDI Global SE Topic: Beyond Data: How Augmentation is Redefining Analytics and Careers Mr. Weber shared compelling insights on the convergence of data analytics and augmentation, discussing its transformative impact on careers and decision-making.
  • 11:30 - 12:30 Stefan A. Deutscher & Dirk Stegemann, Boston Consulting Group (BCG) This session provided a comprehensive overview of ecosystem risks, the importance of cyber resilience, and the challenges posed by cryptographic vulnerabilities—especially in the context of emerging quantum technologies.

The day covered a range of cutting-edge topics, including digital platforms for planning, augmentation in analytics, and ecosystem risk management. Stefan A. Deutscher and Dirk Stegemann’s session particularly stood out for its focus on cyber resilience and the challenges posed by cryptography and quantum computing.

The guest lecture series continues to be a highlight of the Bachelor in Management programme, bridging the gap between academic learning and industry practices. We look forward to welcoming new speakers and exploring emerging themes in future editions of this series.

Thank you especially to Professor Markus Bick for organising this for the 3rd year, and all other speakers, organisers, and participants for making this event a resounding success!
