Simone Marinesi is Associate Professor at ESCP Business School, where he teaches Operations Management and Supply Chain Management courses with a focus on sustainable practices. Before joining ESCP, Simone was a faculty in the Operations, Information, and Decisions Department at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, where he continues to teach as a Lecturer. He received his PhD in Technology and Operations Management from INSEAD, and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Industrial Engineering cum laude from the University of Bologna.

Simone’s research has studied a wide array of innovative business practices from an operational perspective, with the objective to find new ways to create value for firms, customers, and the environment. Among the business models that his work has focused on are: rewards-based crowdfunding (e.g., Kickstarter), threshold discounts (e.g., Groupon), and grocery e-tailing (e.g., Amazon Fresh). More recently, his interest in Sustainability has expanded into the study of energy storage technologies, which hold the key to resolve renewable energy intermittency and make energy consumption more affordable, reliable, and sustainable.

Simone’s articles have received several awards and have appeared in top-tier international journals, including Management Science and Manufacturing and Service Operations Management.

Prior to his academic life, Simone worked for several years as a management consultant in Italy, helping companies operating in a variety of industries. Simone has received multiple teaching awards and enjoys bringing his consulting experience to the classroom.
