Women Who Build: Entrepreneurship & Resilience

A practical event for women entrepreneurs to gain insights, build connections, and strengthen their business for long-term growth.

Building a business rarely follows a predictable path. For women entrepreneurs in sub-Saharan Africa, uncertainty can be compounded by barriers to finance, infrastructure, markets and the support needed to grow.

On 7 November, ESCP Business School, the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) and Nampelka will bring women entrepreneurs and members of the wider entrepreneurial ecosystem together in Nairobi to examine what it takes to build through uncertainty.

Building on research on women’s entrepreneurship in Africa

The event builds on ongoing work by ESCP and GIBS examining the experiences of women entrepreneurs in sub-Saharan Africa.

Research led by Alisa Sydow, Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship at ESCP, and Marianne Matthee, Professor of Economics at GIBS, in collaboration with UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD), identified persistent barriers affecting women digital entrepreneurs, including access to finance, digital infrastructure and international markets.

This event is designed to create a space for entrepreneurs to work through some of these challenges together and exchange practical experience.
