Artificial Intelligence (AI) threatens many jobs. Responding to this challenge requires understanding the competitive advantages humans retain over AI. As computer scientists pursue the goal of building machines that think and learn like humans, AI models have become increasingly complex, requiring vast amounts of data and computation. In contrast, human cognition is remarkably efficient: for instance, the brain uses about 20 watts, roughly the power consumed by a typical computer monitor in use. This talk examines what makes human cognition so efficient. Understanding this efficiency opens up business opportunities, enabling organizations to harness uniquely human strengths in the age of AI and foster effective human-AI collaboration.
About the Professor
Florian Artinger is a professor of Data Science at the ESCP Business School, co-founder and managing partner of Simply Rational - The Decision Institute, and associated scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development. He received his PhD from the Max Planck Institute and has been working as a researcher at the University of Warwick, the University of Chicago, and the University of Oxford.
Florian Artinger’s work integrates teaching, research, and consulting on decision-making, management, and machine learning. As a co-founder and managing partner of Simply Rational, Florian Artinger supports organizations to measurably improve their decision processes. To achieve this, Simply Rational uses Nobel Prize-winning insights from behavioral science and the latest methods from machine learning. Customers include Morningstar Investment, the German Football Association (DFB), and the City of Berlin. His work has been published in leading academic journals and has received international awards. He is a keynote speaker at practitioner conferences, and he has taught managers and financial analysts the arts and science of good decision making.
