What does flexible working mean to you? This webinar will revolve around the evolution of work arrangements over time and, in particular, around the current rise of flexible working. Relying on recent studies and Prof. Almudena Cañibano´s own research, we will discuss how workers understand and experience flexible working and how such experience influences their well-being. Our current predicament caused by Covid19, has forced organisations across the globe to implement flexible working strategies. Although regular work will resume at some point, it is likely that flexible working arrangements will be more common than they were before the pandemic, yet we still have much to learn about their impact on both individual and organisational outcomes.

His book explores the role of accounting and reporting practices in representing sustainability within organizations, and examines how individuals engage with integrated reporting to make sustainability meaningful.

By exploring the case of a large international oil and gas company which operates in more than 70 countries worldwide, and its recent development of integrated reporting, Redesigning Organizational Sustainability Through Integrated Reporting provides theoretical and empirical contributions to address the role of accounting and reporting practices. “The ambiguity of sustainability as a concept, and the impossibility to fully capture it through accounting and reporting practices, does not mean that any attempt to represent it inevitably leads to distortion or obfuscates ‘reality’. Rather, the way in which this concept is presented through accounting and reporting practices can have a constructive effect on the organization through the aspirations that these representations entail,” claims Fabrizio Granà, who is an Assistant Professor in Management Control at the London campus of ESCP Business School.

The author argues that there are three key features that may affect an organization’s approach towards sustainable value creation: firstly, how the adoption of integrated accounting and reporting practices affect the way in which organizations perceive, evaluate and combine financial and non-financial performance; secondly, what the effects of adopting integrated accounting and reporting practices are on managers? aspirations towards sustainable value creation; and thirdly, how integrated accounting and reporting practices stimulate questioning and debate around how non-financial initiatives and performance affect short, medium and long-term financial outcomes.

The book demonstrates that accounting and reporting practices, such as integrated reporting, are not expected to offer complete representations of organizations’ sustainability. Rather, these practices offer a number of representations (e.g. graphs, diagrams, tables, grid) that affect the way in which organizations understand and report on sustainability, changing its meaning over time. Finally, this study demonstrates that undefined concepts, such as ‘sustainability’, and practices, such as ‘integrated reporting’, mutually construct each other. The attempt to represent sustainability within the organization and the debates that this process generates, make accounting and reporting practices unfold themselves, and evolve.

How does a company with a high social impact function? How are its effects on the community measured? Is it possible to design new models that are productive and ethical? The Impact Entrepreneurship Programme - Option-E, the first course co-designed by ESCP Business School and Cottino Social Impact Campus, will investigate and answer these questions.

ESCP Turin Campus and Cottino Social Impact Campus, the first centre in Europe dedicated to impact education, present a new path to training the next generation of experts in Impact Entrepreneurship, who will be capable of creating value in companies while becoming agents of change, promoting sustainability that is both economic and socially conscious.

The course, delivered in Turin in English, is a specialisation for students of the ESCP Master in Management but can be attended by students outside the Business School, young professionals who have graduated, from any discipline, within the last three years.

Participants will be involved in a learning journey lasting 120 hours and divided into 4 modules, from January to April 2021, during which they will be provided with tools and strategies for impact entrepreneurship. They will be introduced to this new systemic approach with lectures, case studies, testimonials, group work and simulations, with the possibility of real experiential learning through on-site visits with local impact entrepreneurs and social businesses.

At the end of this training path, students will acquire new strategic skills for impact management, considering social and ethical issues within businesses, and learn how to make relevant decisions. They will be able to demonstrate, with a critical and independent mindset, a deep understanding of impact organizations and the context in which they operate.

ESCP Business School is a partner of Cottino Social Impact Campus. Born in 2019 by the entrepreneurial vision of Fondazione Cottino, the Campus is the first reality in Italy and Europe dedicated to education of a new generation of professionals and decision-makers able to merge the capacity to intentionally produce social impact with the integral sustainability of their actions: as organizations, individuals or communities.

Admissions are open until 12 December 2020.

In October 2020, ESCP Business School’s London Campus hosted its first ever virtual Careers Fair, allowing students from across the School’s six campuses to attend a series of online webinars and interact with representatives from a variety of companies.

Around 600 students were given the opportunity to book virtual slots and discuss career opportunities with these companies in groups of three, five and 10.

The day began with the three-part webinar series that provided students with insights into specific sectors, including Consultancy and Marketing.

First of the series, Breakfast with Consultants, offered a live Q&A session with ESCP Alumni from renown Consultancy firms like BCG, McKinsey and Bain. Guest speakers not only shared their insights on working within the consultancy sector, but also their personal experiences and lessons learnt through their career paths. Students were invited to ask questions on any aspect of job search and application processes.

Brunch with Marketers, the second in the series of webinars, was a live Q&A session with ESCP Alumni working within various roles in companies like Christian Louboutin, Nike, and Birdseye.

The third and final webinar included a live Q&A session with recruiters from Amazon, Bloomberg, Gartner, Babcock International, BPI and others, giving students a chance to ask questions on recruitment, CVs, cover letters, applications, interviews and more.

The webinar series was followed by the Virtual Careers Fair. In previous editions of the event on-campus, students would be free to explore multiple rooms of stands and chat with potential employers in person. COVID-19 restrictions saw this transform to an online meet-and-greet, with students attended pre-registered virtual slots with companies like Amazon, Babcock International, Bloomberg, BPI, Deutsche Bank, Efficio, Gartner, Stepstone, Splunk and Operis

Babcock International, a leader in engineering services supporting national defence, emergency services and civil nuclear shared: “We attended both the recruiters webinar and the virtual fair. We thoroughly enjoyed the recruiters’ webinar and thought the chosen questions were really helpful for students. Our team enjoyed the day and we hope it was enjoyable for the students. We will be looking out for ESCP students in our applications over the coming months.”

Professor Simon Mercado, Dean of ESCP’s London Campus, commented: “Our virtual event has been a great success, and it is a real breakthrough to offer a service like this online on a high quality platform. The evidence of over 600 ESCP students participating speaks volumes for the reach of our event, the quality of our corporate partners, and the critical importance of graduate placement.”
