Who remembers this time of year? Picking out your favorite back-to-school outfit, feeling the exciting potential of new friendships, cracking open a fresh textbook. The start of the new school year has always been electric, however the thrill of learning was probably not the first thing on your mind.
Though if we were to take anything away from this last year of living with uncertainty, rapid digitalisation, and the upheaval of our ways of working, it is certainly the importance of learning and adapting, of rolling with the punches.
And because the future does not promise to be any more stable, embracing continuous learning is essential to meet the challenges and seize the opportunities ahead.
So how can you make the most of continuous learning both for you and your organisation? Let's ask our experts.
Contrary to what one might think, learning is a continuous process that lasts all of our lives and is not limited to our youngest years.
To understand how companies can foster a positive learning culture, we called upon the expertise of Sara Scapinello, People & Organization Development Director at Lavazza, and Simon Mercado, Professor of Management and Executive Vice President and Dean for Executive Education, Corporate and External Relations at ESCP Business School.

Examining the state of learning today with ESCP Business School Paris Campus Dean Andreas Kaplan
On Thursday, September 23, ESCP Madrid hosted the annual meeting of the Madrid Family Business Association (AMEF) at its Navalmanzano campus, Executive Education. AMEF members generate more than 100,000 jobs with their companies across various industrial sectors (food, automobile, industry, biotechnology, security and defense services, etc).
With this event, AMEF resumed its activities after a year and a half interruption due to the pandemic, bringing its associates to our ESCP Campus, having held this event at other business schools in previous years.
It was a very exclusive event attended by more than 40 owners of Family Businesses and in which there was an interesting conference on Freedom given by Mr. Fernando del Pino, who has been a regular contributor to the economic newspaper Expansión for over 10 years.
The event ended with a cocktail party in the Navalmanzano gardens.
At the express request of AMEF, no photos were taken, nor was any video recording made.

Virtual negotiations and virtual leadership is not new, but it definitely has become more mainstream over the last 18 months.
Leadership and negotiation both require a high degree of communication, exchange of information and trust, that nobody would argue. Both have an objective in mind, whether it is about getting engagement to achieve results with a team, or closing a deal, or taking a collective decision to find a solution to a problem, here are two dimensions of human activity that have most been associated with physical presence and trust building to be effective. If we use cultural semantics we would say that they are both very high context experiences, meaning that there is a lot of implicit communication and reading between the lines that goes on in both scenarios. Do you want to get bad feedback from your boss by email? Would you feel safe building a business relationship to close a deal however explicit your written contract is?
Join Prof. Diana Clarke to take a look at how some of our communication habits have and are, still changing in this virtual context, and establish which ones are stubbornly remaining the same.
The webinar will be followed by a brief presentation of the Executive MBA

The world is highly improbable. From Covid-19 to the Anthropocene, it is difficult to predict what our life will look like in the years to come. In such a context, the optimization of old recipes is not enough. We need to challenge what we do and why we do it.
Artists do this. They do not optimize; they do not follow the rules. Quite on the contrary, they question what is to propose alternatives. Their art pieces not only change the cultural climate, they also influence core practices in design, architecture or business.
In this exhibition, you can discover 8 pieces of art created by 40 students of the Option E Madrid of ESCP (track in entrepreneurship from the Master in Management). From September 21 to 23, 2021, they attended the Improbable seminar to learn the Art Thinking method. This agile method enables to think and work like an artist. Using it, they created propositions which challenge status quo to help us see problems in a new way.
Want to see what amazing things they come up with? See you on Thursday September 23rd at 6:30pm and find out!
