ESCP’s Commitment to Sustainability

For several years now, ESCP Business School has worked towards a more sustainable approach on many of its fields of action: Teachings, Research, Processes, and Governance etc. The “Grand Baromètre de la Transition Écologique”, a detailed questionnaire submitted by the Student Manifesto for ecological awakening was an excellent opportunity to highlight all the work accomplished over the last couple of years..

This 40 questions document is an assessment tool of sustainability policies and actions for Business schools and universities. Thanks to the collaborative work of ESCP’s departments, spearheaded by the Sustainability transition team, the school was able to provide a thorough description of internal actions promoting sustainability.

Confronted by the Ecological Crisis, Every Sector Needs to Transform.

ESCP Business School, aware of its key role in the training of future managers has been committed to sustainability.

The answers given by ESCP in this self-assessment questionnaire are another testimony of the aforementioned commitment. It is also not the first time that the school has been in close contact with this students’ manifesto for an ecological awakening, since one of its debate took place within its walls in the Paris République Campus. (See article “Le Manifeste étudiant pour un réveil écologique organise son Grand Débat” - French - 14.04.2019).

A Testimony to the Commitment to Sustainability Transition of ESCP Business School

By reading this questionnaire, it is easy to see how ESCP’s commitment to sustainability has profoundly transformed its internal organization for the last decade: Change in the teachings, dedicated support to thematic research, sustainable processes implementation, strengthening of teams, organisation of conferences and career forums etc.

On teachings for instance, two new curriculum dedicated to sustainability, ethics and responsibility have been implemented. (MSc in Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Innovation; MSc in International Sustainability Management). There are also new fundamental courses in the key programs. Our objective is that all the students from the school’s generalist programs are trained on Climate/Sustainability issues, and have a comprehensive grasp on planet boundaries.

Furthermore, our research activities have been continuously including more sustainability : the number of publications on the matter have surged to 22% in 2018 and their impact is now measured by their societal influence.

We are also strengthening our collaboration with all of our stakeholders on the matter, including students’ societies, which have seen their participation in our decision-making process increasing.
