Gilles Pillet is Professor of Business Law at ESCP Business School in the department of Economics, Law and Social Sciences. He holds a Doctorate in Private Law and a Post-Doctoral qualification for the Supervision of Research in Law, both from Paris 1 (Panthéon-Sorbonne) University. He teaches national and comparative Business Law and notably Contract and Company Law.
At the same time he lectures Contract Law at the Sciences-Po Paris School of Law and is a legal consultant to the National Bar Council since 2008. As such he has namely worked on matters such as Third Party Funding, class actions, and the reform of French Contract Law.
Prior to joining ESCP Business School he was an assistant Professor at University of Paris XII where he taught Credit Law, transactions concerning payment, debt and transfers, Property Law, Securities Law, and the influence of Human Rights on Private Law.
He’s also a former legal practitioner (admitted to the Paris bar) and has collaborated for more than ten years with lawyers entitled to appear before the Court of Cassation.
His research focuses on business contracts, their relationships with economics and ethics and Islamic Finance. He’s in charge of the International Business Law Journal division’s dealing with innovative contractual practices.
