Gilles Pillet is a Professor of Business Law at ESCP Business School, in the Department of Economics, Law, and Social Sciences.
His research focuses on business contracts and their intersection with corporate law and governance, with a particular emphasis on mergers and acquisitions. He oversees the division of the International Business Law Journal dedicated to innovative contractual practices.
Before joining ESCP Business School, Gilles was an Assistant Professor at the University of Paris XII, where he taught Credit Law, Payment Transactions, Debt Transfers, Property Law, Securities Law, and the impact of Human Rights on Private Law. He is also a former legal practitioner (admitted to the Paris Bar) and collaborated for more than ten years with lawyers entitled to appear before the Court of Cassation.
Gilles holds a Doctorate in Private Law and a post-doctoral qualification for the supervision of research in law, both from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University. His teaching focuses on national and comparative Business Law, with a specialization in Contract and Company Law.
He also lectures on Contract Law at the Sciences Po Paris School of Law. For 17 years, he served as a legal consultant to the National Bar Council, contributing to initiatives on topics such as third-party funding, class actions, the restatement of French Contract Law, and the evolution of the legal services market.
