Herwig E. Haase was Head of the Chair of Economics at Berlin Campus from 1990 to 2010 and is a member of the Economic Department of ESCP Europe.

He is a graduate of the Freie Universität Berlin, holds a Doctorate and Habilitation in Economics.His fields of expertise are theory and policy of International Economics,Economic Systems and Competition of Economies.He taught European and Managerial Economics in the Master in Management and European Business, the Central European and other MBA programs. His research work shows more than 50 publications, especially contributions to encylopedic Dictionaries (i.e."Market Economy and Planned Economy"(1992) and ´European Attractiveness Scoreboards´ (2007 and 2008)).

During his career in science policies he served as Academic Director of Studies(1999),appointed Dean(2002) and since 2004 as elected Rector of ESCP-EAP Europäische Wirtschaftshochschule Berlin. In these years he took the responsibility for stabilysing the Berlin Campus and Academic Governance, doubling the number of Chairs and Programmes,especialy starting the Doctoral Program.

For more than 10 years he worked in politics, particulary as Senator for Traffic Planning and State-Owned Enterprises in the reunified Berlin. As Head he was i.e. responsible for the transformation of the public into efficient companies for the Social Market Economy.

He served as the Founding Dean of the Touro College Berlin, President of the "Berlin Topics",the Berlin House of Representaves and its Study Foundation.

He is member of several scientific societies, received a Honory Professorship of Ukraine and was honored with the "Palmes Académiques"(2005).
