"Our research explores the sustainability challenges linked to the use of Generative AI, focusing on how these issues are perceived by university students and professionals. We discuss the environmental costs of AI, including high energy consumption and e-waste, contrasting 'Red AI' with the emerging 'Green AI' that prioritizes efficiency and sustainability. Surveys and interviews reveal a general awareness of AI's potential environmental impacts, yet a significant gap in understanding their scale and urgency, alongside a lack of sustainable practices at the organizational level."
