Carlos Casanueva is Corporate Associate Professor in the Finance Department and EMBA Local Academic Director at Madrid campus . He became an ESCP faculty member in September 2015 as Associate Professor. He teaches Introduction to Finance, Corporate Finance, Financial Markets&European Institutions and Leadership in the ESCP Bachelor, MIM, EMBA and Executive Programs. Since 2008, he collaborates with Professor Stewart D. Friedman, from The Wharton School, developing Total Leaderhip in Spain and Europe. Also is Founder Partner and Non-Executive Chairman of OpSeeker and BeWay, start-up companies created and managed by ESCP alumni. At Nationale Nederlanden in Spain, he has been Director Member of the Board and President of the Audit Committee from 2016 until 2020

He got in 1986 his BSc, MSc Industrial Engineering, Business Organization specialty, from UPM and ranked first in his specialty. He also holds an MBA from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, with a Fulbright Scholarship for both courses (89-91) to study Options Theory.  He got his Phd, outstanding cum laude, from UPM in 2007 in the field of Financial Markets. 

His career has been mainly as a practitioner in the private sector with almost 15 years working as Executive in the Spanish Financial Sector. His last position until 2015 has been at Grupo Santander as Santander Seguros' General Manager and Board Member. From 1998 until 2003 at Citibank Spain he was member of the Executive Committee responsible for Strategy, Marketing and Products. Also served as member of the Board at Visa España, Servired, Citigestión, Citipensión and Citioperaciones. From 1994 until 1998 worked at Banco Central Hispano ending as Deputy Managing Director responsible for Individuals Segments, Products and Marketing for the whole bank in Spain. Previously he worked as Consultant at McKinsey & Co and Arthur Young and as Systems Engineer in Iberia Airlines of Spain. He worked as student trainee at Procter & Gamble.

He initiated his academic career from 2003 to 2009. He worked as a full time Professor at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Business Administration at UPM where he developed his PhD studies. Also, he collaborated as a Leadership Professor at the International MBA at Instituto de Empresa, Madrid.

His main research activities are related to Financial Markets, Leadership & Management in Financial Institutions and Service Oriented Companies. He is working closely with Professor Stewart D. Friedman for the Spanish and European market.
