Alessandro Ghio

Alessandro Ghio is an Associate Professor in the Performance Measurement and Management Department. Their research focuses on issues related to diversity in accounting (in particular, about sexuality, gender, and age), and corporate social media communication.

Alessandro has published in several leading academic journals, including Journal of Management Studies, Contemporary Accounting Research, European Accounting Review, AUDITING, Journal of Business Ethics, and Critical Perspectives on Accounting, and co-authored three books. Alessandro is an editor of Accounting Horizons and associate editor at The British Accounting Review, and a board member of Accounting in Europe, Accounting Forum, Accounting Perspectives, Comptabilité Contrôle Audit and European Management Journal.

They received the prestigious Global Award 'Ideas Worth Teaching' by the Aspen Institute (NYC, USA). Alessandro is passionate about academic activism and they are the co-instigator of the projects “Queering Accounting” and “Working Women and wellbeing”. They have led and/or taken key roles in competitive research funded projects equating to over one million euros. They are regularly invited by the accounting professional bodies, Big4 and universities to develop and facilitate workshops and consult on diversity in business.

Prior to joining ESCP, Alessandro has been tenured faculty staff at Université Laval (Québec, Canada) and Monash University (Melbourne, Australia), and they have been a controller in a large telecommunication organization, a consultant for the Italian Ministry of Education on social mobility in education, and a visiting scholar at Indiana University (USA). They served on the Financial Authority Market (Québec) - Financial Reporting Advisory Committee.

Alessandro holds an HDR from Université Paris-Saclay, a Ph.D. in accounting from ESSEC Business School (Paris, France) and a Ph.D. in management from the University of Pisa (Pisa, Italy).
