Abstract

Exercises that draw on the imagination play a significant role in planning around sustainable development goal (SDG)-linked challenges. In this chapter, the authors present findings from their participant observation in such an exercise. Enterprise of the Future (L’Entreprise Qui Vient or EQV) created by the Plurality University Network- brings researchers and managers together with science fiction authors to create rich, detailed stories describing companies that will operate beyond the year 2050 in the context of extreme climate change. The authors employ a paradox perspective and related response strategies to analyze the stories created by participants. Adopting a supply chain orientation, they explore the implications of the EQV approach in using the imagination to inform management strategies. Despite the participants’ dedication and authors’ talent, the stories – when analysed – still appear to be heavily influenced by mainstream narratives.
