Gianmarco Andreana is an Assistant Professor at ESCP Business School in Madrid. His research connects operations research, industrial organization, transportation economics, and energy markets, with a strong focus on how quantitative models can support managerial, regulatory, and policy decisions in complex network industries.
His work combines mathematical optimization, game-theoretical modeling, econometrics, and data-driven methods to study competition, regulation, infrastructure investment, and sustainable transition pathways. Much of his research examines aviation markets, including airline competition, airport slot allocation, government intervention during crises, aviation emissions, and airport noise. He also works on electricity markets and power grid expansion under uncertainty, with particular attention to flexibility investments, renewable integration, and market design.
Before joining ESCP, Gianmarco held postdoctoral positions at the University of Bergamo and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and served as an Academic Fellow at Bocconi University. He received his Ph.D. in Applied Economics and Management from the University of Bergamo and the University of Pavia after completing degrees in Management Engineering. His research has appeared in journals including European Journal of Operational Research, Transportation Research Part B: Methodological, Research in Transportation Economics, and Case Studies on Transport Policy. He has taught courses in quantitative models, industrial organization, neural networks and deep learning, microeconomics, and economics. His work has received awards from ITEA, INFORMS, and ATRS.
