Prof. Dr. Matthias Mrożewski is a Full Professor at ESCP Business School Berlin, where he holds the Chair of International Entrepreneurship. He serves as Academic Director of the Option E specialisation within the Master in Management programme and leads the ESCP European SME Transformation Study, a multi-year, cross-border research project providing insights into the European SME landscape.
Prof. Mrożewski’s research focuses on strategic learning in high-growth SMEs, entrepreneurial decision-making, as well as international and migrant entrepreneurship. His work has been published in leading journals such as Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Journal of World Business, Small Business Economics, and Journal of Technology Transfer. He has successfully supervised doctoral students to completion and serves as a regular reviewer for international academic journals.
His teaching aims to inspire students with the vision inherent in entrepreneurial activity across borders, raising awareness of the opportunities arising from their diverse backgrounds and international experiences. His teaching has been recognised with several awards, including the Best Teaching Award for the Digital Entrepreneurship Specialisation by La French Tech and the Best Lecture Award from the Department of Economics and Management at Technische Universität Berlin.
Prof. Mrożewski has secured several competitive research grants totalling more than €1.2 million from institutions such as the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German-Polish Science Foundation, the Foundation for German-Polish Cooperation, and the Haniel Stiftung. He also serves as a mentor to several startups and has been involved in building and leading the Berlin-based incubator Blue Factory.
He received his doctoral degree from Technische Universität Berlin, where he was part of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and contributed to numerous EXIST proposals and projects.
During his time at TU Berlin, he served as Programme Manager for the Master’s programme in Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship and was a visiting researcher at the Centre for Entrepreneurship at the University of Oxford. Prior to his academic career, he gained professional experience in M&A and the startup sector.
