My time at ESCP has been more than just an academic journey—it’s been a real-life masterclass in time management and balancing the heavy load of launching a start-up and taking a master course.
As a full-time MSc in Marketing and Digital Media student navigating the rigours of the programme, I’ve managed to grow my start-up, Beneperora Venezia, which launched in January 2024.
A Typical Day in My Life
Balancing coursework with running a business often feels like a marathon. My mornings typically begin with responding to customer inquiries, managing orders, and liaising with artisans for production updates. By mid-morning, I’m fully immersed in ESCP lectures, working on group projects or attending networking events. Evenings are reserved for designing new collections or brainstorming marketing strategies. Every moment counts, and prioritisation is key to making it all work.
What helps me keep all the balls in the air?
Balancing Academics and Entrepreneurship
– Clear priorities: Each day, I list my top three must-accomplish tasks, ensuring that both academic and business needs are addressed.
– Batching tasks: I group similar tasks to maintain focus. For example, specific hours are dedicated to answering emails or managing social media.
Support from the ESCP Community
ESCP’s dynamic environment has been pivotal in helping me strike this balance. Professors and peers have not only provided valuable feedback and networking opportunities that have amplified the company’s reach, but have also been understanding of my dual activities. The diversity of perspectives at ESCP constantly drives me to think innovatively and challenge the status quo – skills that directly benefit my business.
The Journey of Beneperora
Launching Beneperora Venezia in my hometown of Venice, a place where art, craftsmanship, and design converge, has been a dream come true. Venice’s rich heritage has been a constant source of motivation throughout the development of my brand. Since its launch, Beneperora has reached over 200 clients, 90% of whom are repeat customers.
The name Beneperora has a story, as it combines the first three letters of my first and last names, Benedetta Peroni. In Italian, “bene” means “good” or “well,” and “per ora” translates to “for now.” The objective is for the name to reflect a philosophy of positivity and mindfulness: an invitation to focus on the present, live fully, and enjoy each moment as it comes.
The idea for the company began taking shape in early 2023, fueled by my passion for fashion and a desire to create artisanal pieces that embody both tradition and modernity.
Studying Marketing and Digital Media at ESCP in Madrid has been instrumental in shaping my approach to branding and strategy. I’ve gained a deeper understanding of digital tools, customer engagement, and storytelling, which will be key to growing my company’s identity and visibility.
Managing my startup while pursuing my MSc has been one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences of my life. This journey has taught me that with passion, resilience, and a solid support system, it’s possible to excel both academically and professionally. Running this brand alongside my studies at ESCP has reaffirmed my belief in the power of determination.
