Faculty News An emotional Full Faculty Meeting

The 2023 Full Faculty Meeting took place between 10 and 12 May in Turin, with ChatGPT almost stealing the show from outgoing Faculty Dean Valérie Moatti.

Like last year, the 2023 Full Faculty Meeting was an opportunity for faculty members to work together on the future of the school and teaching. Only this year, ChatGPT was on everyone’s mind and even tried to take centre stage: some workshops were titled Chat GPT and the future of teaching and learning (Daniele Battaglia, Mostafa Rezai & Howard Zhong), Chat GPT and the future of student's assessments & assignments (Louis David Benyayer, Chauwen Dong & Gonçalo Pina) and Chat GPT and the future of research (Lorena Blasco & Alessandro Lanteri).

“My last Full Faculty Meeting was particularly emotional and stimulating,” sumps up Faculty Dean Valérie Moatti. “Beyond several enjoyable and memorable social events, including a night at the opera, it was the opportunity for all of us to think about the future of teaching, learning and research, notably in the context of ChatGPT and other generative artificial intelligences. Debates were facilitated by a few young colleagues who have expertise in the field and have already made interesting experimentations.”

Ce n’est qu’un au revoir

Other workshops like The future of teaching & learning to face social & environmental challenges (Associate Dean for Sustainability Transition Joe Miemczyk) and Dreaming about the future of faculty & learning spaces (Turin campus and Student Experience Dean Francesco Rattalino) addressed other issues dear to ESCP.

Valérie Moatti also took the opportunity to look back over her 6-year mandate, before a few words of warm thanks from Acting Executive President and Dean Léon Laulusa, followed by impactful presentations by the candidates to her succession – Maria Koutsovoulou and Pramuan Bunkanwanicha -, as well as the Associate Dean for Research’s: Christophe Moussu and Régis Coeurderoy. The election will take place between May 30 and June 7.

I received a standing ovation from the faculty that filled me with emotion and that I will remember forever

“I did my ‘last show’ in front of the full faculty, sharing good memories, major achievements and special moments of these past six years, always partnering with Pramuan Bunkanwanicha. It was a memorable time to share our legacy but also our emotional roller coaster. I also thanked and congratulated the whole faculty as all projects were collective and excellent results are theirs. At the end, I received a standing ovation from the faculty that filled me with emotion and that I will remember forever,” she adds.

As every year, the full faculty meeting is also the time to reward exceptional contributions. “Since our faculty is growing and more and more professors are reaching excellence in different fields, campuses and activities, we decided to increase the number of award recipients. Interestingly, we created new awards such as ‘Teaching award - Special dedication to students’, ‘Life-long Teaching award’, ‘Young scholar research award’ and ‘Citizenship award’.”
