There were eight seasons of conquests, sagas, and constant betrayals, in a profane world imagined by an author from American counterculture, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/George_R._R._Martin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">George R. R. Martin<\/a>. <strong>It is a universe dominated only by power plays, where no one ever dreams of turning the other cheek.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"House Of The Dragon | Official Teaser | HBO Max\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fNwwt25mheo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption><em>House of the Dragon<\/em> will be premiering on 31 August<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, <strong>this series has sparked great interest among management authors<\/strong>, leading to the publication of all kinds of books, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/us.macmillan.com\/books\/9781250301178\/win-or-die\"><em>Win or Die:<\/em><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/us.macmillan.com\/books\/9781250301178\/win-or-die\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> <em>Leadership Secrets from Game of Thrones<\/em><\/a> by Bruce Craven or <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/book\/10.1007\/978-3-658-34117-6#about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Leadership in Game of Thrones<\/em><\/a> by professor of media and communication management Brigitte Biehl. But there is nothing too surprising in there. These works explain how the exploits of various characters are like lessons in political survival for the most ambitious of viewers: men are weak but treacherous, you must constantly learn to be on your guard. In this way, the book entitled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.infideas.com\/books\/game-thrones-business\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Game of Thrones on Business<\/em><\/a> compares what Tywin Lannister has in common with Steve Jobs, and shows how important networking and personal alliances are in power struggles. This is shown by Littlefinger\u2019s rise through the ranks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But in reality, <mark>the series constantly confronts us with two managerial questions:<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The first is <strong>the meaning that we give to family management<\/strong>. The story recounts the internal struggles within the seven \u201cgreat houses\u201d (the Tyrells, Martells, Greyjoys, etc.), which are supposed to lead the world but find themselves confronted with environmental and migratory dangers that overwhelm them. Subject to their ancestral beliefs, like thinking that a Wall can stop a migration phenomenon, they have interests to protect but no great causes to defend. The period demands an ambitious vision, where their immediate and sole objective remains staking out a portion of power and holding onto it at all costs.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The second concerns <strong>the question of whether there is still a need for a boss in an organisation<\/strong>. And if so, what are the reasons that lead to power, what is the boss\u2019s overall motivation, and why do we appoint them? These questions also represent the central theme chosen by the excellent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.philomag.com\/archives\/hors-serie-ndeg-41-printemps-2019\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">special issue of <em>Philosophie Magazine<\/em><\/a> (in French) for this important chapter in the history of televisual fiction.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The authors once again pose the central question of politics and leadership: who dominates, who is dominated and why?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, through a series of references to Plato and Hobbes for example, the authors once again pose the central question of politics and leadership: who dominates, who is dominated and why? <strong>This is actually the first reference to Plato, for whom the rise to power means not wanting it.<\/strong> It is quite the opposite of the case of the horrible Joffrey Baratheon, whose grandfather Tywin Lannister tells him \u201cany man who must say \u2018I am the king\u2019 is no true king\u201d in season 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or <strong>we can refer to Hobbes, who reminds us that between leaders and followers, the difference in power is smaller than you might ordinarily think:<\/strong> the bastard with no army Jon Snow seizes his destiny and becomes King in the North. Alcoholic dwarf Tyrion, whose family hates him for his well-known appetite for houses of debauchery, becomes the Hand of Queen Daenerys. Or else Mance Rayder, former deserter of the Night\u2019s Watch, who represents the only somewhat credible \u201cking\u201d, as the only one who is elected, rather than resorting to autocracy. At the same time, Melisandre believes Stannis to be \u201cThe Prince That Was Promised\u201d even though he loses the Battle of the Blackwater, making beginner\u2019s strategical mistakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Les le\u00e7ons de strat\u00e9gie et de management de Game of thrones [Ghislain Deslandes]\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-9eyLV3jRjY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Power is a trick, a shadow on the wall. And a very small man can cast a very large shadow.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>But perhaps we had better point out that after all, <strong>the most didactic philosopher is one of the key characters &#8211; Lord Varys, the Master of Whisperers (aka the Spider).<\/strong> While he never backs down in the face of manipulation and is full of obsequiousness, he keeps in mind what everyone else seems to have forgotten: the common good and interest of all. On the subject of power, he draws the following conclusion: it \u201cresides where men believe it resides. It\u2019s a trick, a shadow on the wall.
