Sustainability beyond the classroom
oikos hosts the annual GoGreen Festival in Paris

What is GoGreen’22?

On May 12th and 13th, the sustainability association oikos organised its annual GoGreen festival, a two-day conference dedicated to the ecological transition.

In partnership with ESCP and Lighthouse, the event continued to engage the ESCP community on the need for an ecological transition and the challenges it presents.

The event was held on the Paris Republique campus and broadcast online, with over 80 participants taking part in various presentations, panel discussions, and workshops.

Why organise the event?

According to the IPCC and IPBES reports, we are experiencing unprecedented magnitude and speed of climate change and biodiversity erosion (n.b. +1.1°C globally now compared to 1850 which leads to negative extreme weather events, and already 25% of the world's plant and animal species are facing extinction).

However, while solutions are emerging, they may not be well known.

We wanted to give voice to those citizens, companies and organisations that are working to make the world better.

What happened during the programme?

Over two days, oikos hosted presentations, panel discussions and workshops focusing on different aspects of the green transition, with guest speakers from all over Europe joining both in person and online.

On day 1, we learned about the capabilities of citizens in climate decision-making and the benefits and challenges of participatory democracy from two experts on citizen participation, Daniel Steinvig from We Do Democracy and Erwan Dagorne from Missions Publiques.

We also welcomed ESCP alumnus Antoine Yeretzian (Master in Management, 2016) from AXA Climate School, who explained how companies could upskill their employees for sustainability and the role of insurance companies.

Finally, we had a session with Elodie Asselin and Thomas Harre from Capgemini about the energy transition.

Day 2 was kicked off with a career roundtable by Lighthouse, where three passionate sustainability professionals (Tissa Smaghe, Circul'R, Eugénie Zervos, PwC and Clément Carreau, Phenix) gave their perspectives on working in sustainability.

Later, we had the pleasure of welcoming author and researcher Eva Rovers and the co-founder of Scientist Rebellion, Mike Lynch-White, for a discussion on the most impactful ways of engaging as a citizen for the climate.

Finally, at the end of the day, we reflected on the insights from the two days through a fun and exciting workshop on cities and sustainable housing.

To close two days of engagement, we hosted a networking event to discuss what was learnt and what is next for climate action.

The event was catered by Sezono, a restaurant with local food founded by the ESCP alumni Ai Loan Dupuis (Master in Management, 2011).
