The choice of a bachelor programme is perhaps one of the most important decisions to be taken in the youth and it most often involves the entire family, not the students alone. The transition to university education requires several needs to coexist, including the aspirations and orientation of the students themselves, the values ”‹”‹of the family and the needs of the world of work.

We spoke with the parents of some of our Bachelor in Management (BSc) students to gain deeper insight into how they experienced this pivotal moment. The occasion and setting could not have been more special: the Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2023 at the MOA Hotel in Berlin. It was a day filled with emotions, a moment of celebration and reflection”perfect for looking back on the journey and appreciating how far they had come.

Choosing a bachelor’s degree. A decision taken in the family

Choosing a university is not just a personal decision; it often involves the entire family. It is a milestone that shapes not only a student’s academic path but also their personal growth and future opportunities. For parents, the choice to send their children abroad for higher education is filled with excitement, hope, and, naturally, a bit of apprehension.

For some families, the idea of studying abroad was always part of the plan. For others, the journey began with research, recommendations, and a leap of faith. Iris Hössl describes this transformative experience from a parent’s perspective: ”Sending our children abroad and seeing them grow year after year in different locations is an exciting journey for both parents and students. It is a unique experience that teaches them independence, resilience, and adaptability.” Witnessing their children navigate different cultures, develop new skills, and build confidence is both rewarding and reassuring for parents who initially faced doubts.

Not all parents were familiar with ESCP before their children applied, and for many, the decision required careful deliberation. Neeta Yadav recalls her own search for the right programme: ”I was searching for a business programme that would be the right fit for my son. When I discovered ESCP, I asked for opinions from professionals and young graduates. Many of them strongly recommended ESCP because of its unique international approach. At that point, I was considering a few options, but the feedback I received made ESCP our first choice.” The school’s global reputation and innovative structure convinced many families that this was not just a degree”it was a transformative experience that broadened horizons.

ESCP Bachelor in Management (BSc). The reasons of a choice

For many families, ESCP stands out not just for its academic excellence, but for the life-changing journey it offers. The opportunity to study across multiple countries, interact with peers from diverse backgrounds, and gain hands-on exposure to international business is what truly sets the programme apart.

Anna Mensà highlights the transformative impact of this experience: ”Being immersed in an international environment, being in contact with people from all over the world, allows students to grow not only from an academic perspective but also personally and culturally.” The ability to engage with different worldviews and approaches fosters adaptability, resilience, and open-mindedness”skills that are increasingly vital in today’s globalised workforce.

Beyond academics, studying in different countries challenges students to adjust to new environments, navigate various business cultures, and become more independent. Naresh Yadav emphasises the significance of this exposure: ”It is a great opportunity for students to learn different ways of working, different management styles, and to develop the ability to adapt to various cultural environments.” These experiences help shape students into professionals who can thrive in diverse workplaces and lead with confidence in international settings.

The value of such an education extends far beyond the classroom. In an ever-evolving global economy, companies seek individuals who can think across borders, communicate effectively in multicultural teams, and bring innovative perspectives to the table.

Learning independence and multiculturality. Three years in three countries

How does it feel as a parent to watch your child pack their bags, knowing they are heading not just to university but to three different countries over three years? It is a daunting yet rewarding process.

Of course, allowing a child to live alone in several foreign countries at such a young age is not always easy, as Keiko Wilde admitted: ”From a mother’s perspective, it was difficult to let go, but it was absolutely worth it. We often feel the need to overprotect our children, but we should let them explore the world and build their own valuable experiences.”

For many families, this journey is transformative not just for the students but for the parents as well. Jörg Hössl added: ”Seeing our children move to a new country every year is a challenge, but also a fantastic opportunity. It is a journey not only for them but for us as parents as well.”

The decision to study abroad at ESCP is more than just a choice of university”it is a commitment to a lifestyle of adaptability, independence, and global awareness. It is about shaping young minds into individuals who are not just academically competent but also ready to face the complexities of the modern world.

Looking ahead to the future, Lucio Lucchino concluded: ”This programme does not just provide academic knowledge; it helps students grow as individuals, develop their confidence, and learn to navigate different cultural environments. These are the skills they need to succeed in the globalised world of tomorrow.”

The ESCP Bachelor in Management (BSc) is a unique opportunity to challenge yourself and experience intercultural management first-hand by living and studying in three different countries over three years.
